Sample of Resignation Letter

Sample of resignation letter: Key elements to include when writing a resignation letter

There are three key elements to include in a resignation letter. These elements are: the date you are resigning, the reason you are resigning, and a grateful acknowledgement to your employer for allowing you the opportunity to work in your position.

It is always a good idea to leave your job on a positive note. You should do this to avoid problems with future employers or problems re-applying with your current employer for a different position one day down the road. Remember: you never know what the future will bring.

Below is a sample of resignation letter. This sample of resignation letter is generalized and can be used in most circumstances.

October 24, 2005

John Lucas
Director of Research & Development
Sun Technology, Inc.
24 Temple Street
Boston, MA 02114

Dear Mr. Lucas:

As company policy states, I am required to give you two weeks notice before resigning from my job as a Software Engineer at Sun Technology, Inc. Please consider this letter my resignation.

I have chosen to pursue a career change. Please realize that this change has nothing to do with my experiences at my current job.

I feel very grateful for the five years of employment Sun Technology, Inc. has provided me with. I have learned many valuable professional and life lessons during my time on the job - lessons that I will carry with me throughout my endeavors in life.

I hope to stay in touch with my colleagues at Sun Technologies and if there is anything I can do to make this transition easier, please do not hesitate to ask me.

Sincerely,

David Albert
Software Engineer
