Resume Objectives
Using resume objectives may or may not be a good idea depending on how you use
it. Consider this career objective: "A challenging position that would enable me to utilize my knowledge and skills."
You see the problem? This kind of resume objectives are like saying nothing. Every jobseeker wants a job like that, a recruiter has no idea of what you're looking for by reading your resume.
So, if you want to use a career objective in your resume, make it narrow and focus. You can have several versions of your resume with different objectives. Ideally, you can even write a specific objective for each job you apply for. This makes it clear to the hiring managers that you're interested in the job they have to offer.
A good career objective should also address what you can offer, rather than merely states what you want. You should consider "what's in it for the employers". Look at these two career objectives:
"A position that effectively uses analytical skills in wastewater management to improve prospective employer’s environmental operations."
"To obtain a meaningful and challenging position that enables me to learn the accounting field and allows for advancement."
If you're a hiring manager, which one do you like?
