Writing A Receptionist Resume

When writing a receptionist resume, it is usually difficult to determine what exactly you should present as your strong areas. For example, if you have stayed in a single job for 15 years, what does that show? Does it show loyalty or lack of ambition?

A friend I know went for an interview and was asked: If you are doing your own work that you had planned for, then your boss comes up and asks you whether you can do his job, will you be irritated or will you gladly do what you are required to do?

Both ways, you can indicate strength and both ways you can increase your weaknesses. It is therefore sometimes challenging when we fail to show which personality we should show. However, if you are a receptionist, your resume should in bring out the following qualities about you:

Ability to work under minimal supervision

Employers love working with people who do not need to be followed about for them to work. They prefer people who know what is expected of them and are ready to do their jobs properly. Therefore, show this. You can show this by indicating leadership positions that you have previously had and are willing to bring them out. You can also indicate areas where you have shown initiative and achieved what others thought was difficult or impossible.

The ability to take responsibility

As a receptionist, there are so many things that you may end up making blunders. For example, someone may call and leave you with a message. Then you forget to leave the message to the right person. If something happened because the message was not delivered do not try to pass the blame to someone else by saying that you delivered the message or by claiming that you were not left with any message. Therefore the employer would love to see you with ability to take responsibility and correct the areas where you have gone wrong.

Maintaining a positive attitude

This should clearly come up in your resume because a receptionist will have to meet so many people. This means that the face that you wear will be the face of the organization. That is what people will understand to represent you and the organization. Therefore, even when you have disagreed with someone on the phone, let your positive side come out clearly. This will show that you are a person who is always cheerful and it will boost your receptionist resume.

Hardworking

This is another trait that must come up on your receptionist resume. You should not be a lazy chap who is just looking for shortcuts and ways play the blame game. You must show that in more cases than one, you have gone beyond what was required of you and exceeded expectations. This will be enough to make your phones ringing once the potential employer sees the receptionist resume.
