Here is an interesting one. What is the US Presidents salary? Firstly we must understand that it is probably not the biggest criterion to be considered for such an important and responsible job. Though the compensation for the US President is generous, we know that the President’s make more in the private sector and a prime example is President George. W. Bush who is quite a wealthy businessman otherwise.
For doing his job as the President of the USA, President Bush is paid USD US 400, 00 per annum. This is supplemented by USD 50000 per annum as expense account, USD 100000 towards non-taxable travel, USD 19,000 per annum towards official entertainment and of course free housing. Free housing in this case is the White House, which consists of 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, a movie theatre, a bowling alley, a billiards room, tennis courts, a jogging track and putting greens. He also gets to utilize the facility of Camp David, the Presidential retreat and these are some of the benefits that go with the job of course.
It was not too long ago when the Presidents salary was only USD 200, 000 per annum. The last pay hike was in 1969 when it was doubled from USD 100000 to USD 200000 per annum and only recently has it been doubled again to USD 400000 per annum (adjusting for inflation for USD 200000 in 1969, it should actually be USD 903, 232 though, as per reports).
A retired President is paid USD 150000 per annum and another USD 150000 towards staff maintenance while a former First Lady is paid USD 20,000 per annum. The Vice President earns USD 208, 100 per annum, which is the same as what the Speaker of the Hosue of Representatives and the Supreme Court Chief Justice are paid. Supreme Court Associate judges earn USD 199, 200 per annum while Court judges earn USD 171, 800 per annum. The President protempore of the Senate, the Majority and Minority leaders are paid USD 180, 100 while Presidential Cabinet members such as the Secretary of Defense, Attorney General are paid USD 157, 000 per annum.
