Nevada is the 7th biggest and the 35th most populous state in the USA. Las Vegas is the largest city in this state and is the gambling and entertainment center capital of the USA. Actually, most of the state's jobs come from the tourism, gambling and resort industries in Las Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe. Las Vegas has more hotel rooms than any other places on earth, and in 1999 the state had 205,726 slot machines. Nevada is also famous for its mining industry, it is the nation's leading producer of gold, silver, and mercury. Its gold production is second in the world behind South Africa. Primary manufacturing include gaming machines and products, aerospace equipment, lawn and garden irrigation devices, and seismic monitoring equipment. Agriculture is not highly developed in Nevada since it is the driest state in the USA. However, many of the high plateau areas are excellent for grazing, and cattle and sheep raising are important industries. During the Cold War, a Nevada site was chose to test nuclear weapons. Yucca Mountain is the primary depository for U.S. nuclear wastes.
