Interview Thank You Letters

Always follow up your interviews by sending interview thank you letters. The most important thing of your thank you letters is to quickly get them in the hands of interviewers. At the very latest, do this within 24 hours after the interview. It's a courteous thing to do and set you apart from those candidates who usually do not do this. It also send out a message that you're interested in the position, responsible, efficient and productive.

So what should you write in your interview thank you letters? Below is a commonly used format:

In the first paragraph, thank the interviewer for the opportunity and for taking time to interview you.

In the second paragraph, restate your interest in the position and the company, identify some appealing aspects of the job that your discovered during the interview. emphasize your skills, experience and accomplishments, state your confidence you have regarding what you can offer and relate them to the job.

In the third paragraph, once again, thank the interviewer for the time and consideration. And if necessary, mention that you expect to hear from them and will follow up with a phone call in a few days.

Also, keep you interview thank you letter short and simple, proofread it and make sure it's error-free.

The following is a sample interview thank you letter:

Dear Ms. Jones:

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for interviewing me for the programmer position on Oct. 7th, 2004. I appreciate the time your spent during the interview as well as the tour your provided. I'm impressed with the state-of-art technology and the exciting project being conducted there.

This position sounds very interesting to me and I am confident that my skills and past experience have provided me with the qualifications necessary to work effectively with your team. I am especially pleased to know that you use the H2O programming language, since I have 8 months of experience in it during my employment at Times Company.

Once again, thank you for the opportunity to interview with your company. I am excited about the prospect of working with such a dedicated team of professionals. If you request any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.
