Cover Sheet to a Resume

Many job seekers often orget to include cover sheet to a resume in their marketing package. It is surprising, but the resume cover sheet frequently seems to escape the attention of a large majority of candidates. As a result, many job seekers lose out on the prospect of a wonderful new job.

A resume cover sheet is vital and important for several reasons. If you have never noticed, many employers require the presence of a cover sheet in order for a candidate to even be considered for employment. Most commonly a resume cover sheet will require the following information:

- Name of candidate
- Code or Position number (this frequently refers to a number used by the HR department to track the progress of the open position.) Can be obtained from the job posting or advertisement.
- Positions for which you wish to be considered.
- Earliest date by which you will be available for employment
- In addition, a resume cover sheet will also frequently ask you to review and sign an acknowledgement statement.

As you can see, the cover sheet provides a significant amount of critical information to prospective employers. It is little wonder that many employers will simply toss a resume if it comes in without a cover sheet.

Even if the job that interests you does not request the presence of a resume cover sheet, it's a good idea to include one anyway. It gives you a chance to provide additional information to prospective employers and most will appreciate the initiative you took in providing a cover sheet.
