Architect Salary - A Rounded View
The average architect salary has been pegged at an average of USD 56, 632 per annum (according to one report), this does not make it as attractive as some other professions. However, it is true that the architect’s profession is widely considered a creative one and one that provides considerable job satisfaction. Another good news is that according to the American Institute of Architects, the average architect salary has been reportedly increasing by 10% for beginners and one could expect further increases for those who complete Architect Registration Exam (ARE), a Masters degree in architecture and for Computer Aided Design (CAD) managers. But whichever way you view it, architecture is certainly one that will never go out of fashion as long as people seek to build and improve their living conditions in this world.
Now what does an architect do? As an architect one develops new designs and structural techniques to improve the quality, safety and attractiveness of buildings that could be used for our daily living, playing or work. As many other studies have explicitly stated already, the quality of our work or life is considerably affected by the quality of our environment, which indicates how important an architect can become in deciding the quality of our lives.
To become a licensed architect you would have to obtain a 5-year college degree in architecture for which a sound base in maths, history, geometry and algebra would come in handy at the undergraduate level. As an architect you would be required to frequently work with a wide gamut of people because your work is always in conjunction with many other factors internally and externally. For example, you may have to work with urban designers, interior designers, structural engineers, landscape architects and even members from other professions so that the best desired effect is created in every way.
Normally architects work in teams that are split into different works regarding planning, programming, designing and cost estimating. Other areas of an architect’s world include writing project specifications, construction contracts, site planning, basic requirement for projects and alternate design concepts. Normally once the basic design is in place, the general design leads to schematic drawings and design development drawings. As a project supervisor you may be required to supervise a team of drafters, specification writers and estimators.
The job is fun, will never go out of fashion and provides a lot of scope to exhibit ones creativity for results that are functional as well as pleasing to look at in public view.
